In Spare’s memoir, Prince Harry shares the story of his first date with Meghan Markle. After being mesmerized by Meghan’s beauty, Harry asked Violet (Meghan’s friend) to introduce them. In short, the two met in London on July 4th, the United States’ Independence Day.

“She came in, wearing a beautiful blue dress with white stripes. She looked very pretty. I stood up and said: I have brought a gift. A pink box. I thrust it forward. She shook it. What is this?” wrote Prince Harry in Spare’s memoir, quoted from People, July 5, 2023.

“He opens the box. Cupcakes. Cupcakes are red, white and blue to be exact. In honor of Independence Day. I said something about the British having a very different view of Independence Day from the people of the United States but, oh, well,” he continued.
